Tottenham eye James Trafford transfer after Guglielmo Vicario news

James Trafford has emerged as a potential transfer target for Tottenham in the wake of Guglielmo Vicario’s injury update, according to talkSPORT.

The report (26 November) states that “Tottenham are considering” a move for a goalkeeper in the January transfer window to cope with the absence of Vicario after the Italian had surgery on a fractured ankle.

Trafford is reportedly “keen” on a Premier League return having been relegated with Burnley last season.

Vicario has been a mainstay in the Spurs side and his absence will surely be felt in the coming weeks.

Fraser Forster will be his likely replacement in the short term although Spurs will have to adapt their style of play with his lesser ability of distributing the ball.

Trafford has impressed consistently for Burnley despite their relegation last campaign. His presence in the England senior squad despite playing his club football in the Championship is a testament to the ability and potential he possesses.

The Englishman would be an excellent pick-up for Tottenham and would not only provide excellent depth in the ‘keeper department but would also be fierce competition for the number-one shirt under Postecoglou.

The decision may ultimately come down to the finances that are accessible during the January window as Spurs may opt to use them to strengthen other areas in the pitch with Trafford likely to cost a pretty penny.
