Tottenham fans all absolutely fuming at £15m star during 1-0 defeat vs Nottingham Forest on Boxing Day

Tottenham Hotspur’s disastrous season in the Premier League continued after they succumbed to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Nottingham Forest.

Ange Postecoglou would have expected Spurs to bounce back against Forest after their 6-3 defeat against Liverpool.

Jamie Carragher was critical of Postecoglou after the contest, who perhaps would have drilled the message into his players to prove their detractors wrong on Boxing Day.

However, Tottenham were punished by an in-form Anthony Elanga, who opened the scoring in the 28th minute, which turned out to be the winning goal.

Elanga capped off a counter-attack from Nottingham Forest with an assured left-footed finish.

Destiny Udogie let the Swedish winger have a free run at goal and completely lost his man.

Tottenham fans blast Destiny Udogie during Nottingham Forest Boxing Day defeat

The £15 million (Sky Sports) man managed to keep pace with the former Manchester City speedster as well.

Yet, the Italian international did a shoddy job of marking him, which ultimately cost the Lilywhites.

Tottenham fans were very critical of Udogie as Nottingham Forest continue flying this season.

As a Spurs fan criticised Ange Postecoglou’s system, another replied, writing on X: “Udogie is in the right position and then just lets Elanga run past him, do you want Ange to run on the pitch to tell him not to do that.”

Another Tottenham fan noted: “Udogie more focused on looking at the linesman than trying to make a last ditch tackle. Utterly embarrassing.”

A Tottenham fan questioned what the former Udinese defender even adds to his side.

“Genuinely want someone to say what it is Udogie offers this team. He doesn’t score or assist, is often caught out of position and doesn’t have the best positional sense when we’re defending.”

“Ange has not improved him in his time at the club, that’s a fact.”

Another Lilywhites supporter claimed that Udogie let Elanga have a free run at goal despite the latter being clearly onside.

“Udogie just let him breeze past looking for a flag that weren’t coming”, followed by an ‘upset emoji.’

A Tottenham supporter feels Udogie is a better fit for Antonio Conte’s system rather than Ange Postecoglou’s.

“Have said it before but Udogie is a very attacking-minded wing-back. The guy was signed for Conte based on his performances in that role for Udinese who then didn’t get to coach him and has played as a full-back in back 4 since, doesn’t fit the profile and gets exposed a lot.”

A sixth Tottenham fan wrote: “Son [Heung-min] and Udogie have been very, very, very bad, worst I have seen them”

Finally, a seventh Spurs supporter blasted Udogie’s defensive ability.

“Udogie is woeful at defending, always has been.”

Udogie will be disappointed to hear that Tottenham fans were let down by his performance.

The 22-year-old only has himself to blame with how ineffective he was against Nuno Espirito Santo’s side while being poor at the back for Elanga’s goal.

Based on the statistics, Udogie did not have his worst outing.

But the youngster did not offer much in either box and all in all, he has been quite underwhelming after a promising debut season at Tottenham.

With Djed Spence capable of playing at left-back, Udogie could well lose his place unless he steps his game up.
