Chelsea fans are saying a lot about Malo Gusto after Boxing Day loss to Fulham

Chelsea are now winless in their last two Premier League games after suffering a shock 2-1 loss to Fulham in their Boxing Day clash at Stamford Bridge.

The talismanic Cole Palmer opened the scoring for Chelsea on 16 minutes as he weaved past the Fulham defence and slotted home from the edge of the box.

However, Enzo Maresca’s charges conceded eight minutes from time when Cottagers star Harry Wilson nodded in Timothy Castagne’s header back across goal.

And then, five minutes into stoppage time, Sasa Lukic crossed for Rodrigo Muniz to control and slot into the far corner to stun the home contingent.

A few Chelsea players did well on the day, while others struggled as Fulham won at Stamford Bridge for the first time since 1979.

One such player was Malo Gusto, whose performance led to a lot of Blues fans commenting about him.

Chelsea fans call for Josh Acheampong to start ahead of Malo Gusto

Chelsea fans on X noted how Gusto has been struggling for a while now and urged Maresca to give Josh Acheampong a go in the starting XI instead.

Acheampong has been getting praise from Chelsea fans while Maresca recently backed him to become a “great” player for the Blues.

One fan said: “Enzo Maresca should start thinking of how to start Achempong ahead of Gusto, this should happen soon.”

Another noted: “Double role for Gusto is not working in my opinion.

“He’s being used more of a CDM as well and that’s why Neto is tracking back so many times. It does look risky actually. Gusto can offer more but needs to be used perfectly.”

And one supporter added: “Gusto’s probably having his worst game in a Chelsea shirt. Antonee Robinson and Iwobi both should have scored if not for Sanchez and Neto.”

Calls for Acheampong to replace Gusto kept coming, with one fan saying: “What does Gusto contribute? I’m calling for Acheampong to start at this rate.

And one supporter added: “Acheampong for Gusto is the sub that needs made. Malo so off it today.”

How the media rated Gusto display v Fulham

The Express gave Gusto a rating of 4 out of 10 for his efforts on the day.

“The Frenchman didn’t do anything too out of shape,” they began.

“Although Fulham were encouraged to attack down the left by the amount of space gifted to Robinson and Iwobi, and Gusto’s lack of aggression in going to close down the ball contributed to that.

“Caught completely unaware when Wilson headed home.”

Likewise, football.london went with a 4 out of 10 for Gusto as they wrote: “Struggling in recent matches. Not his best once again.”

Goal.com were a little kinder as they gave Gusto a 5 out of 10, writing: “Bombed on down the wing and into midfield but to little gain for his side.

“Often used as a dummy runner rather than getting on the ball himself.”
