Tottenham supporters have reacted angrily to a report that a new centre-back may no longer be targeted due to the form of Archie Gray.
The London Evening Standard reported on Friday (27 December) that makeshift centre-half Gray’s positive displays have eased the North London outfit’s need to recruit in that area in January.
Gray was partly signed from Leeds United for his versatility, being able to play in his preferred central-midfield position or right-back, and he has now added another string to his bow.
While that is undoubtedly a positive for Spurs, the suggestion that a new defender will not be recruited has not gone down well given the injury crisis in that area.
Tottenham cannot rely on Archie Gray
One supporter on X [27 December] branded Tottenham “pathetic”, while another wondered if the report was a joke.
Another added that “nothing much changes”, in what is a likely dig at chairman Daniel Levy, and another simply laughed given the poor defensive displays witnessed so far under Ange Postecoglou this term.
Tottenham lost 1-0 to Nottingham Forest on Thursday (26 December) and are back in action against Wolves on Sunday (29 December).
That is the Lilywhites’ final Premier League match before the January window opens, at which point fans will be desperate to see at least one new addition – at centre-half or otherwise.
In other Tottenham news, Postecoglou needs to take a look at what a couple of players have done away from North London.
