Ange Postecoglou could axe Dejan Kulusevski when Tottenham host Wolves in the Premier League on Sunday.

Postecoglou is in desperate need of a win after the odds were slashed on him being sacked as a result of Spurs’ 1-0 Premier League defeat against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Thursday (26 December).

However, after injury updates on Radu Drăgușin and Ben Davies [via Football London, 27 December], it looks as though Spurs are facing an uphill battle in North London on 29 December.

And with Wolves having won both of their matches since Vitor Pereira took over from Gary O’Neil, Postecoglou will need to ensure he gets his team selection spot on.

Fraser Forster didn’t have a lot to do against Forest, making just two saves, yet still managed to make an error which led to a shot (Sofascore). However, Postecoglou has little choice but to stick by the goalkeeper.

Meanwhile, the Australian is facing something of a defensive crisis with potentially all four of his senior centre-backs unavailable. As a result, the Spurs boss could be forced to start Yves Bissouma alongside Archie Gray, which will no doubt leave a few fans feeling nervous.

Destiny Udogie and Pedro Porro will almost certainly be the starting full-backs, with Djed Spence suspended after he was sent off against Forest. Udogie won 100 per cent of his ground duels and completed 97 per cent of his passes at the City Ground. However, he should have done much better for the goal.

In midfield, Pape Matar Sarr and Rodrigo Bentancur are likely to keep their places, the latter playing one key pass while the former won 100 per cent of his ground duels against Nuno Espírito Santo’s side.

Further forward, Postecoglou could take a risk and drop Kulusevski for the first time since the 1-1 draw with Rangers in the UEFA Europa League at Ibrox (12 December). The Swede was in fine form heading into the clash with Forest, having scored a goal in each of his previous five appearances, however, he was very poor at the City Ground,

Zero per cent of Kulusevski’s crosses were accurate, while he won just two of his 16 ground duels, was dribbled past four times and gave possession away 27 times.

Therefore, James Maddison could replace the 24-year-old.

That would see Brennan Johnson keep his place on the right despite an underwhelming display against his former club during which the Welshman failed to provide an accurate cross from three attempts and also missed one big chance.

Meanwhile, Dominic Solanke and Son Heung-min will both likely keep their places, despite also struggling to impress against Forest, with the latter succeeding with just 50 per cent of his dribble attempts while the former failed to hit the target with any of his three shots.

In other Tottenham news, Massimiliano Allegri could be ready to turn the tide in North London as pressure on Postecoglou increases.
