Tottenham scare off club who want to sign Spurs defender with big-money demand

Despite Tottenham defender Emerson Royal being on AC Milan’s transfer list this summer, the Italian giants are being priced out of a move, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

Over the last couple of weeks, the right-back’s future has been brought into question with the Brazil international having many potential suitors this summer.

Milan have even met with the former Barcelona man’s agent, however, Spurs’ price tag of £21.2m is too high for Stefano Pioli’s team.

Why Tottenham should hold out for their asking price for Emerson Royal

As aforementioned, the links between Emerson and the San Siro have been getting stronger as the weeks have gone on.

AC Milan have been willing to wait Daniel Levy’s Tottenham out until their price drops to what they deem as an acceptable amount.

However, if anything the fee of £21.2m is a more than acceptable amount for a player of his quality.

Over the course of his career, he has shown that he is competent in a back four and has even been among his team’s best players at times.

Across the 2023/24 season alone, the right-back has made a total of 24 appearances across all competitions for Ange Postecoglou’s side.

Although he hasn’t often been a first-team regular, when called upon he has always been reliable.

In fact, according to Transfermarkt, the full-back has even appeared in centre-back on six occasions.

Not only does this showcase his versatility but also how highly Postecoglou rates the defender.

And, although Pedro Porro has been the preferred option this term, with Djed Spence being the North London club’s only other natural right-back, the gulf in quality between the Brazil international and the former Nottingham Forest man is staggering.

Since arriving at Spurs, Spence has only appeared six times for the club and even had his loan spell with Leeds this season cut short despite the club not having much depth in the full-back role.
