Transfer Guru: Tottenham plotting to sign Man City player

Tottenham are keeping tabs on Jack Grealish’s situation at Man City as they weigh up a potential transfer, according to the club’s former scout.

Mick Brown, who also spent over a decade at Man United during their most successful period and remains very well-connected within the game, exclusively told Football Insider that Ange Postecoglou wants to add to his attacking talent.

The 29-year-old’s ability to drag the play forward while also slowing the tempo and winning free kicks to help ease pressure is also viewed as a valuable asset.

His quality and experience would add another dimension to Spurs’ game as they aim to find consistency to their play following a disappointing start to the season.

However, it is unlikely that a move will take place in the January transfer window as a result of City’s recent injury struggles.

City are expected to make a decision on his long-term future closer to the end of the season, but are unwilling to let him leave mid-season amid concerns about their depth.

Brown previously told Football Insider on 5 November that City could be open to offers for Grealish at the end of the season.

Now, the former scout who has a wealth of experience in player recruitment at the top level, has insisted that Tottenham are continuing to keep tabs on his progress and are expected to make a move if he becomes available.

“If City decide he doesn’t have a part to play there any more, he could leave,” he told Football Insider.

“We know what Jack gives them playing in more of a supportive role, but they if they decide they could get some money back, that’s their decision to make.

“He’d definitely be an asset to Tottenham and he’s one of the players they’ve been tracking.

“He would help to stop this basketball thing where it’s going from one end of the pitch to the other.

“That’s one of their issues, they can score plenty but they concede too many as well.

“But say they can give the ball to Jack, he can make sense of it. He drags the play forward and then he can win a free kick or slow things down a bit.

“That would make a huge difference in their favour.

“The manager is keen to add some more depth in wide areas too.

“So, from what I’ve heard, he’s one they’ll make a move for if he becomes available.

“It comes back to the player and to Man City, whether they decide he no longer has an important role to play at the club.

“But I think that decision won’t be made until probably the end of the season. They don’t want to sell him now, that’s for sure, with their recent injuries.”
