Troy Deeney says Dominic Calvert-Lewin looks to have downed tools for Everton after Perry Groves accused the striker on Saturday.

The Englishman started again for Sean Dyche in the 0-0 draw against West Ham United on 9 November, struggling at the London Stadium.

Speaking on talkSPORT ahead of kick-off [9 November, 13:55], Groves expressed his disappointment that the 27-year-old is not giving his best during matches, and also ignoring fans.

Adrian Durham reacted to the verdict, saying: “I’ve got Troy Deeney nodding away here. Troy, that’s quite an accusation. That’s what Perry said, he’s not giving his all. Is that a fair accusation? Could he give more?”

Deeney answered: “That’s what it looks like. I saw him against Ipswich, and he missed some massive chances. And I thought something that was really key was he didn’t acknowledge the fans.

“He didn’t acknowledge the fans, didn’t say anything to his teammates, went straight down the tunnel.”

Dominic Calvert-Lewin needs to do better for Everton

Calvert-Lewin has had some turbulent years due to persistent injuries, which have meant that the striker has been unavailable for selection for the most part.

His fitness issues have led to fans wanting someone more reliable to lead the line.

The 27-year-old seems to be back this season, starting 11 consecutive games in the Premier League, but his goal return hasn’t been encouraging.

Dyche also has Beto at his disposal, but the 26-year-old hasn’t really convinced many during his time at Goodison Park, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the forward leave the club due to his limited game time.

Calvert-Lewin showed immense promise once, but the Everton faithful can’t be expected to wait for the English striker to find his form once again as they battle relegation.

It doesn’t look like the 27-year-old is fighting to stay at the Toffees with his contract expiring at the end of the season [Fabrizio Romano, 22 September], and a parting of ways would seem like the best option for both parties.
