'Unbelievable' - BBC pundit stunned by what 'Really Poor' Rangers calamity did vs St Mirren

Robin Propper stunned BBC pundit with how bad he was for Rangers in the first half vs St Mirren at Ibrox.

The former Gers striker reacted live on BBC Sportsound on 27 October as the Dutch defender lunged and missed a ball through for Toyosi Olusanya for the second time in the early exchanges of the Scottish Premiership clash.

Propper stretched and failed to cut out a ball between the defenders for the visiting striker, and had to be bailed out Leon Balogun as he took advantage of some hesitancy to break up the attack, but Thompson was stunned by the “unbelievable” defensive sloppiness from the former FC Twente captain.

Commentator Thomas Duncan asked (3.17pm): “Robin Propper there, what is he doing Thommo?”

Thompson replied: “Really poor from Propper, really poor. Again Olusanya, I don’t know why, with his pace, he doesn’t just take the ball forward.

“He’s in a one on one situation almost but once he checks back in it gives Balogun the time to make the challenge. Just keep going on your right hand side and get a shot away.

“But yeah, I mean Rangers, that was so poor defensively it was unbelievable.”

Philippe Clement signed struggling Rangers defender

There was no John Souttar in the squad for Rangers as Philippe Clement rotated his squad after the 4-0 win over FCSB in the Europa League, with James Tavernier and Cyriel Dessers also dropped to the bench.

A centre-back pairing of Balogun and Propper looked like a cause for concern once the XI was announced, with the 30-year-old summer signing the main reason.

Unfortunately for the Light Blues he ensured those concerns weren’t unfounded as he twice let Olysanya clean through with lumbering attempts to cut out straight-forward balls through the Gers back line.

He has flattered to deceive since arriving from FC Twente to replace Connor Goldson in the summer and the first half at Ibrox was no different.

However he was far from alone in underperforming in the first 45 minutes, with the overall level of performance hugely reduced from the European win.

Mohamed Diomande scored with the first Rangers attack in relatively fortunate fashion but Alex Gogic equalised from a corner which was self-inflicted by Nico Raskin.

However well the Light Blues do in Europe the pressure on Clement’s job will only grow if this is how they perform domestically, especially with a massive trip to Pittodrie to face Aberdeen up next on 30 October, and Propper looks like an ongoing issue.

In other Rangers news, a Scottish manager has been tipped to replace Clement at Ibrox.
