Troy Deeney hailed Everton defender Michael Keane as “Unbelievable” after his performance in the 2-0 win over Ipswich on Saturday (19 October).

Everton extended their unbeaten streak with the win at Portman Road to four, as Keane scored the second goal with an incredible finish from a tight angle.

Ashley Young was also named in Deeney’s Team of the Week but most of his plaudits were directed towards Keane after another big afternoon for Sean Dyche.

Writing in his BBC Team of the Week column (22 October), Deeney said: “He has received a fair bit of criticism from Everton fans in the past few years. Away to Ipswich, he was excellent; not one bad tackle, not once out of position, and what a goal.

“An unbelievable finish with his weaker left foot.”

Michael Keane has given Sean Dyche an Everton selection dilemma

Dyche has been forced into using Keane this season alongside James Tarkowski, with Jarrad Branthwaite struggling with injury issues.

The start of the campaign could not have gone worse, with four straight defeats while conceding goals for fun both home and away.

However, over the last month, the squad has come together and turned things around.

Branthwaite is expected to return imminently and will be expected to slot straight back into the starting XI at Goodison Park.

The defender enjoyed a massive breakthrough year at Goodison Park last season and was one of the main sources of joy despite points deductions and relegation battles.

On current form, it could be Keane who gets the nod over Tarkowski but realistically, the 31-year-old will likely be sent to the bench.

Dyche could surprise fans and try out the pairing of Keane and Branthwaite but unless Tarkwoski finds himself sidelined before the Fulham game on Saturday (26 October), it feels rather unlikely for that to happen.
