Gabby Agbonlahor picked Everton defenders Ashley Young and Michael Keane in his Team of the Week after their performances against Ipswich Town.

The Toffees extended their unbeaten run at Portman Road on 19 October, leaving with a 2-0 victory as Keane and Iliman Ndiaye found the back of the net.

Picking his team for talkSPORT [21 October], Agbonlahor extended his praise past Keane’s goal with a solid all-round performance yet again for Sean Dyche.

“To be playing in the Premier League the way he is at his age just shows what a professional he is,” he said about Young.

“He looks like a 25-year-old, running up and down that right-hand side, left-hand side if needed. And I thought he was very good against Ipswich. Got a clean sheet as well.”

On Keane, Agbonlahor added: “Got a great clean sheet. He kept out most of the attacks from Ipswich.

“And the way he took his goal. That’s not a defender’s goal. Do you know how hard that is? Weaker foot into the roof of the net. Great finish by Michael Keane.”

Everton jump up the Premier League table

Dyche had a nervy start to the 2024/25 season, with the future of the Englishman at the club being heavily questioned.

Young is one of those trusted by the boss despite plenty of outside criticism, but he has really stepped up while others around him pick up consistent injury issues.

The 39-year-old brings much-needed experience to the team, and his recent performances prove that Dyche is right to count on him.

Unfortunately, the former Manchester United star isn’t getting any younger, and the Toffees need the likes of Nathan Patterson to finally prove himself.

As for Keane, he isn’t expected to be the main man at Goodison Park, but with Jarrad Branthwaite struggling with injuries of his own, he has stepped up.

Dyche has decided to count on the 31-year-old in recent months over new signing Jake O’Brien, and the centre-back has shown resilience after coming under the cosh at the beginning of the season.

Hopefully, the good times can keep on rolling at Goodison Park.

In other Everton news, the Toffees have dodged a bullet after recent developments away from Goodison Park.
