Finance Expert: Everton have 'Dodged a bullet' after recent 777 update away from Goodison

Everton have “dodged a bullet” after recent developments at 777 Partners, according to football finance expert Dan Plumley.

The Miami-based company had loaned the Toffees £200million after agreeing a deal to acquire Farhad Moshiri’s stake at Goodison Park, but that loan is now worth just £66million in cash after the firm’s collapse [Paul Brown, 7 October].

777’s major backer A-CAP appears to be liquidating the investment firm’s assets and while Plumley suggests the Toffees have had a lucky escape, he insists it is not yet clear how the collapse will impact Everton.

“It’s tough to say how much this affects Everton,” Plumley exclusively told Goodison News.

“The news reports on it don’t exactly say how this impacts that particular loan or indeed the club so we don’t want to speculate too much.

“But I think in the bigger picture what is absolutely clear now is that Everton have dodged a bullet and we know the backstory there with 777 and all the things we spoke about around the time we thought that takeover was going to go through with all the red flags.

What has happened to 777 Partners after failed Everton takeover at Goodison Park?

“So there’s no official clarity on this yet and whether it has any official impact for the club if at all.

“But it’s quite clear to me based on what we’re seeing now and the fallout, everyone would look at that and say Everton have dodged a bullet with this one.”

Fortunately, Everton managed to get out of the agreement with 777 Partners before it was too late and can now look forward to a brighter future under the ownership of the Friedkin Group.

The Roma owners have agreed on a deal to acquire Moshiri’s shareholding on Merseyside and while there has been no official update on their takeover, Plumley has told Goodison News things could be advancing quickly behind the scenes.

Hopefully, it won’t be too long until the Moshiri era at Goodison Park is finally over and Blues fans can look forward to a brighter future.

In other Everton news, one Ipswich Town player has been slammed for a “shambolic” moment in the clash with the Toffees.
