Jesper Lindstrom has been a resounding failure at Everton since his loan move from Eintracht Frankfurt.
While the 24-year-old has been self-critical of his performances and has not shied away from the limelight, all Evertonians will agree that the forward has failed to meet the mark during his spell at Goodison Park.
However, Lindstrom has one final opportunity to impress Sean Dyche before the January transfer window after the Blues boss confirmed star talisman Dwight McNeil is “touch and go” to feature against Nottingham Forest on Sunday (29 December).
The clash at Goodison Park will be the Toffees’ final fixture of 2024 and could be Lindstrom’s final match on Merseyside should he fail to impress and/or get the opportunity to impress against Forest.
Jesper Lindstrom has to make impact for Everton v Nottingham Forest
All the speculation approaching the winter transfer window has been centred around Jack Harrison amid claims Everton should cancel his loan from Leeds United.
According to Sky Sports commentator Guy Harvard (22 December), the Blues could capitalise on the new-found riches from The Friedkin Group takeover and uncertainty surrounding West Brom to secure the signing of forward Tom Fellows.
However, Lindstrom has been equally as underwhelming as Harrison, if not worse – at least the Leeds loanee is finding his name on the teamsheet at Goodison Park.
The Danish international has not started a game for the Blues since the 4-0 loss against Manchester United and accumulated only 57 minutes of playing time from the bench in the last four Premier League encounters.
He should be allowed to start on Sunday (29 December) after Harrison missed golden opportunities against Arsenal and Manchester City to see Everton head into the weekend with four more points on the board.
Lindstrom’s Napoli form speaks for itself, and the quality is still there, but his confidence is shot after a string of poor performances on Merseyside.
The Blues are in the best form of the season, and Lindstrom should thrive alongside teammates riding off the momentum, but if he fails to meet the required standard once again, it could be he who is sent packing to his parent club when the January window opens.
