Ange Postecoglou has named his Tottenham starting XI to face Bayern Munich in their final pre-season clash on Saturday (10 August).

The Australian will be hoping to end the season preparations with a win against the Bundesliga giants, having faced them last weekend and being condemned to a 2-1 defeat.

One player who has been standing out is new signing Lucas Bergvall, who replaced Archie Gray at half-time during the first meeting, but Postecoglou has left the youngster out of Saturday’s starting XI.

Fans have become extremely excited watching the 18-year-old attacking midfielder, arriving from Djurgarden in Sweden, especially showcasing his talents against Hearts and K-League All Stars.

With Spurs edging closer to their Premier League opener against Leicester City on Monday 19 August, Postecoglou will want to finalise his starting XI for the first game of the new campaign.

Sadly, this could suggest that Bergvall has not quite done enough in his eyes to warrant a starting position at the King Power Stadium next Monday, and fans have every right to be disappointed.

Lucas Bergvall benched misses out for Tottenham v Bayern Munich

Coming on at half-time against Bayern last time, he was a force to be reckoned with in the middle of the park, taking control with 41 touches, winning 100 per cent of his tackles (2/2), and 70 per cent of his ground duels (7/10) [FotMob].

Despite leaving the field with an average 76 per cent pass completion, which will need to improve for the Premier League, his 75 per cent dribbling success shows how important he can be in transition.

His statistics should really come as no surprise, having maintained a 62 per cent dribbling success in the Swedish Allsvenskan division [FotMob], and he has proven his passing ability with an improved 89 per cent average this season.

Instead, Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma are set to start in midfield, with James Maddison ahead of them, though the latter has seriously underperformed in recent matches.

Against Bayern, the former Leicester City man was hooked at half-time, completing just 54 per cent of his passes, 0 per cent of his crosses and 0 per cent of his attempted long balls [FotMob].

It would have been exciting to see the youngster Bergvall trusted in a more advanced position, but Posteceoglou has decided to drop him from the lineup completely, raising questions about his role next season.
