Ange Postecoglou would be smart if he were to replace Tottenham striker Dominic Solanke at half-time in their Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest.
The game has been fairly end-to-end throughout the first half with both sides only getting the odd chance on goal here and there which could leave the Australian rather annoyed that he left James Maddison on the bench.
While neither side have really sat back in the clash, the deadlock was broken by Nottingham Forest after a nice counter-attack was slotted into the back of the net by Anthony Elanga in the 28th minute to give the hosts a 1-0 lead at the break at the City Ground.
Spurs haven’t been all that exciting in attack and the addition of Maddison to the team and the moving of Son Heung-min to a central position would no doubt spruce things up somewhat and perhaps allow them to pull the scores level.
Spurs won’t want to lose their third game on the bounce and the introduction of Maddison could be a way for them to solve their attacking woes.
Why Dominic Solanke needs to be axed for Tottenham
As per Sofascore, in the 45 minutes, the Englishman has been on the pitch, he’s only had two shots on goal and has had 32 touches of the ball.
The two shots he’s had were both blocked by a Forest defender and have only helped him generate an xG of 0.11 in the first half.
He’s also completed zero per cent of the dribbles he’s attempted in the clash and has only maintained a pass accuracy of 73 per cent.
In terms of ground duels, the former Bournemouth talisman has only won 33 per cent of those that he’s attempted and he’s also lost possession of the ball 13 times in the first half.
Defensively, he’s also not been all that strong as he’s only made one tackle throughout the entirety of the first half.
If Maddison was added to the centre of the park and Son moved to the number nine role, it would give Postecoglou’s men a different way to attack and perhaps allow them to capitalise on the creative nature of Maddison who is known to have a keen eye for a pass.
Of course, it might seem harsh on Solanke to say that he must be taken off but, if Spurs want to at least get something from the game, the replacing of the striker could well be the best way for them to do so.
