Michael Gray slammed a “ridiculous” moment involving James Maddison in the Nottingham Forest versus Tottenham match.
Maddison halted the run of Callum Hudson-Odoi but the referee allowed play to go on and did not initially book the playmaker.
The incident happened in the second half of Thursday’s (26 December) Premier League clash at the City Ground, where Forest were 1-0 winners.
“Ridiculous. It has to be a yellow card for James Maddison,” Gray said live on talkSPORT [26 December, 4:30pm].
“How can you not stop the game? Forest are attacking, their player is taken out and Tottenham could have gone up the other end and scored.”
James Maddison underwhelms in Tottenham loss v Nottingham Forest
This was yet another disappointing afternoon for Ange Postecoglou and his Tottenham side as they fell to a 1-0 loss to high-flying Forest.
Maddison will have been frustrated to have been named among the substitutes, but he had a little over half an hour to make an impact from the bench.
However, he was unable to do so as he failed to register any key passes and did not really do enough to prove Postecoglou wrong.
As for this incident in particular, Maddison was simply taking one for the team by halting the run of Hudson-Odoi.
Postecoglou will once again have to go back to the drawing board ahead of Tottenham’s next game, which is at home to Wolves on Sunday (29 December).
