Kris Boyd believes that Aberdeen go into the game against Rangers as favourites, given their start to the season.
The Sky Sports pundit has cast doubt on the mentality of the Gers side to go and take the game to their opponents.
Philippe Clement’s side travel to Pittodrie to take on the Dons on 30 October in the SPFL.
Speaking to the Scottish Sun Sport on 28 October, Boyd said at 9:06: “Going into this game, the way that both teams have been performing, you’ve got to have Aberdeen as favourites just because you know the environment. You’re going to turn up at Pittodrie.
“There’s been questions of Rangers in terms of the mentality, that strength and character to go and get results. I’m not sure there’s enough people in that Rangers team to go and take this game to Aberdeen.”
Rangers find themselves in an unfamiliar underdog position against Aberdeen
Boyd’s assessment that Aberdeen are favourites reflects a harsh but realistic view of the current dynamics between the two teams.
Under Clement, the Ibrox outfit have displayed inconsistencies that have indeed raised questions about their mental fortitude and tactical cohesion.
Playing at Pittodrie, known for its hostile atmosphere, adds another layer of challenge, making Aberdeen the perceived favourites due to their season’s start and home advantage.
For Clement, this game represents a critical juncture as to justify his tenure, he must not only motivate his squad but also strategically outmanoeuvre Aberdeen.
Winning at Pittodrie would require a blend of robust defending, tactical nous and perhaps most crucially, the right mentality to overcome the anticipated pressure.
Clement’s ability to marshal his team to secure all three points would not only be a testament to his managerial acumen but also a pivotal moment in restoring the club’s competitive edge and confidence.
