'Unbalanced': Pundit claims £30m player Arsenal sold has made a big mistake in leaving

Arsenal had a busy old summer in terms of incomings and outgoings but Tony Cascarino feels one player has made a huge mistake in leaving.

The Gunners finally moved a number of players on who had been linked with moves away for a number of windows.

Reiss Nelson got a move to Fulham, where he joined Emile Smith Rowe, who finally left the Gunners after coming through the academy.

Goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale also signed for Southampton and Fabio Vieira got a move back to Portugal.

However, one of the big sales for Arsenal fans was the £30m offloading of striker Eddie Nketiah to Crystal Palace.

Nketiah opted to sign for Oliver Glasner’s men despite interest from elsewhere.

But according to Tony Cascarino, Nketiah could have a big mistake in choosing Selhurst Park.

Eddie Nketiah told he’s left Arsenal to join the wrong club

Writing in The Times about Nketiah and his move to Crystal Palace, Cascarino has suggested the striker may have made a mistake in joining the Eagles.

“It was vital he chose the right club after leaving Arsenal but on this evidence I am not sure he has. He was fighting for headers and flick-ons in the right-back area. It felt unbalanced watching him play in that system,” Cascarino said.

“At Arsenal there were several occasions where he led the line superbly and looked a world-class forward so Palace have definitely bought a class act but they need to find a way to get the best out of him or he will stagnate and begin to suffer self-doubt.

“His dreams of being an Arsenal legend are over. Right now he needs a comforting arm around the shoulder and for the team to be set up in a way that allows him to recognise his importance to them.

“He must be looking across at his former team-mates now at Craven Cottage and noting how happy and relaxed they look playing in a system that suits them and allows them to flourish.”

Nketiah needs time to settle

While Cascarino makes a good point here it is still very early days for Eddie Nketiah at Palace and there is plenty of time for him to make an impact.

Nketiah showed during his time at Arsenal that he can do the business in the Premier League and over time, he should be a smart signing by Palace.

Of course, the goals need to come soon and Glasner needs to find a way to get the best out of him.

Right now, though, patience is key for all involved.
