View: Ange needs to reward 20y/o Tottenham attacker after what he did y'day

Ange Postecoglou needs to offer Dane Scarlett an opportunity at Tottenham.

Spurs need to find a reliable number nine ahead of August, something they failed to do after the departure of Harry Kane last summer.

Richarlison went on an incredible scoring run midway through last season, but his persistent injury issues toward the end of the campaign proved that he cannot be relied upon.

Son Heung-min was often played through the middle last season but the South Korea international isn’t getting any younger.

Kane is yet to be properly replaced in North London, and there is likely an assumption that the club will have to splash the cash to fill the void left behind by their record goal-scorer.

However, Kane came through Spurs’ academy, suggesting that there is every possibility the answer might be right under the club’s nose.

And Scarlett continues to prove that he might be that answer.

While Scarlett doesn’t have any senior goals to his name in a Spurs shirt, that shouldn’t be held against him.

It is difficult to get on the scoresheet when you’re only being handed limited minutes off the bench.

However, whenever the 20-year-old goes away on international duty, he finds the back of the net.

That was the case once again on Tuesday (11 June) with the striker scoring from the spot as England’s Elite League Squad drew 2-2 with the Republic of Ireland in Zagreb.

It follows on from the Young Lions’ 2-1 win against Sweden on Friday (7 June), a match in which Scarlett once again found the back of the net.

Back in March Scarlett was on hand to score five times for the Young Lions across two matches.

Despite his impressive form for his country, for whatever reason Postecoglou seems reluctant to give the youngster a consistent run in the Spurs team.

However, the Australian has now been left with no choice.

This form simply cannot be ignored, and Scarlett at the very least deserves a proper opportunity to demonstrate what he can do during pre-season.
