Ange Postecoglou could axe Son Heung-min when his side host Roma at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday.

Spurs will be full of confidence after thrashing Manchester City 4-0 in the Premier League at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday [23 November].

Therefore, supporters will be expecting their side to make it back-to-back wins when Roma visit North London [27 November].

On paper, this is one of Spurs’ trickier Europa League ties. However, Roma have struggled this season, currently sitting 12th in Serie A and 20th in the Europa League standings.

As a result, Postecoglou’s side have a golden opportunity to make it four wins from five in Europe this season and put themselves in with a strong chance of qualifying for the next round from the top eight.

However, Spurs do have some injury issues to contend with, while Postecoglou will also be keen to rotate amid a busy fixture schedule.

Ange Postecoglou to make six changes for Tottenham v Roma

Postecoglou’s first of a potential six changes will be a forced one after it was confirmed on Monday [via Fabrizio Romano, 25 November] that Guglielmo Vicario had undergone surgery for an ankle fracture.

Vicario was excellent against City, making five saves which prevented 1.10 goals [Sofascore]. However, he will have no choice but to sit this one out with Fraser Forster likely to replace him.

Micky van de Ven has been ruled out until mid-December, which means Radu Drăgușin should keep his place. Meanwhile, Postecoglou recently said [via Football London, 22 November] that he was hopeful Cristian Romero would return this week.

However, the Argentinian is unlikely to be risked in the Europa League, which means Ben Davies could also keep his place.

Davies and Drăgușin were excellent against City, with the latter winning two of his three ground duels while the former made six clearances as Spurs kept an impressive clean sheet away to the champions.

With Davies likely to fill in at centre-back, Postecoglou will need to call on one of his first-choice full-backs, and just like against Galatasaray last time out in the Europa League, Pedro Porro could keep his place at right-back while Archie Gray completes the back-four.

Rodrigo Bentancur is currently suspended domestically, a punishment which could yet be changed. However, the midfielder is still eligible to compete in Europe, and Postecoglou could use this as an opportunity to rest Yves Bissouma.

Meanwhile, James Maddison will expect to keep his place after his stunning performance at the Etihad where he grabbed a brace, completed 100 per cent of his dribbles and won nine of his 13 ground duels.

Finally, Lucas Bergvall could come in to offer Pape Matar Sarr a much-needed rest.

Brennan Johnson came off the bench against City to grab Spurs’ fourth, while he also completed 100 per cent of his passes and dribbles.

He will likely replace Dejan Kulusevski who was excellent against Pep Guardiola’s side. The Swede grabbed an assist, completed 100 per cent of his dribbles, won 100 per cent of his ground duels and played four key passes.

Postecoglou will be keen to rest Kulusevski with so many big games ahead. However, unfortunately, it looks as though the Australian will have no choice but to start Dominic Solanke, with Will Lankshear suspended and Richarlison out injured.

Therefore, with two key first-team players already starting in the front three, Postecoglou will likely be keen to rest Son, who played two key passes and provided one assist against City.

Son could be replaced by Mikey Moore, who is expected to return against Roma after suffering from a virus.
