Simon Jordan believes Tottenham should win a trophy this year, especially because they are “not good enough” for a top-four finish.
Ange Postecoglou’s side have been inconsistent so far this season which has led to some frustration at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Spurs currently sit 6th in the league but supporters will be hoping that if they can find their form after their 4-0 win against Manchester City, they could rise in the table.
There also remains a desire from fans to win a trophy, something their manager has become known for doing in his second season with a club.
However, Jordan believes only one of these is possible and when asked whether he thought a trophy or top four finish was more important for the club this season he said on TalkSPORT [26 November, 10:42am]: “I do think that they need to win something, of course, they do for Tottenham fans to get rid of this monkey off their back. I do think they should win something.
“I do think Ange Postecoglou is capable of winning something and to my mind, I think they should win one of the cups this season. Not could, should and I think the opportunity they’re playing Manchester United in the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup, they can win that game. It’s at Tottenham, they can win that game. I’m assuming he’ll put out a side trying to win it and they’re in the Europa League that they can do well in.
“Do I think they can get into the top four? No, I don’t think they’re good enough.”
What is success for Tottenham this season?
There is an expectation to be a top side at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and we have already seen conversations surrounding Postecoglou’s future this season because of their lack of consistency.
In an ideal world, supporters would no doubt love to win a trophy and finish in the top four of the Premier League and as a top manager, their boss will probably be striving towards this himself.
However, one has to take priority and given their league form so far and how many teams will be competing for a Champions League spot, a trophy might be the one to focus on.
As Jordan says, Spurs currently have two tournaments in which they have opportunities to win trophies and they will surely fancy their chances against Manchester United on home turf in the League Cup.
Either way, the Australian has to bring success in some form to North London this year to renew the faith fans have put in him to be the man who can progress their team.
