Ange Postecoglou could make three changes when his side welcome Everton to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday (24 August).

Spurs did not get their Premier League campaign off to the best of starts.

Despite dominating against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Monday (19 August) the visitors’ lack of cutting edge meant the match ended 1-1 after Jamie Vardy cancelled out Pedro Porro’s opener.

As a result, Postecoglou could look to make some changes to the team that welcome Everton to North London this weekend.

The Toffees made an even worse start to the season, kicking off their final campaign at Goodison Park by losing 3-0 to Brighton in front of their own supporters on Saturday 17 August.

Therefore, with the right team selection, Spurs should have no problems picking up their first three points of the season in their first home match of the 2024/25 campaign.

Ange Postecoglou to axe Brennan Johnson against Everton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Spurs’ new number one Guglielmo Vicario will expect to start every Premier League game this season. The Italy international had very little to do against the Foxes, making just two saves and completing 95 per cent of his passes (Sofascore).

In defence, Postecoglou is likely to name the same back-four. Cristian Romero arguably could have done better for the goal against Leicester, but he was flawless elsewhere, winning 100 per cent of his ground duels, completing 93 per cent of his passes and making three clearances.

The Argentinian will likely start alongside Micky van de Ven with Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie on the flanks, despite the latter’s subpar performance against Leicester, during which he gave away four fouls and won just five of his 13 ground duels.

Pape Matar Sarr will likely keep his place with Rodrigo Bentancur expected to miss out after suffering a head injury on Monday (via The Standard, 23 August). Yves Bissouma could come in to replace the Uruguay international.

James Maddison looked back to his best against his old club, providing the assist for Porro, completing three key passes and 100 per cent of his dribbles. He is likely to start once again on Saturday.

After completing four dribbles and creating one big chance against Leicester, Spurs captain Son Heung-min will be hoping to open his account for the season against Sean Dyche’s side, with Postecoglou likely to stick by the South Korean.

Dominic Solanke was unable to find the back of the net on his Tottenham debut but did have three shots on target, demonstarting that the marksman will have chances with his new club. However, Postecoglou has confirmed that the striker will miss out against Everton due to injury (via Football London, 23 August), with Richarlison likely to start instead.

On the right is where the third and final change could arrive.

Brennan Johnson completed zero per cent of his dribble attempts and was unable to provide an accurate cross into the box against Steve Cooper’s side. He might therefore be replaced by Wilson Odobert, who could be handed his Tottenham debut by Postecoglou.
