Cristian Romero will have thrilled Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou yet again after another Argentina masterclass in the Copa America final.

Playing the entire 120 minutes, Romero’s stats show just how important he was in helping Argentina win their 16th Copa America title.

In the final, Romero was unbeatable. He won 100 per cent of his four ground duels. He also made four clearances, blocked two shots, and intercepted the ball four times. Impressively, no one managed to dribble past him.

Romero was also strong in the air, winning three out of four aerial duels. With 52 touches and 35 out of 37 accurate passes, he helped keep Argentina moving forward.

He delivered four perfect long balls and even made a key pass, showing he can do more than just defend.

Throughout the tournament, Romero was a key player. He started in five of Argentina’s six games, only sitting out the third group match against Peru because Argentina had already qualified for the knockout stage.

His defensive stats were incredible, averaging nearly five tackles, almost two interceptions, over four ball recoveries, and three clearances per game.

Romero and Lisandro Martinez made a strong defensive pair, helping Argentina keep four clean sheets and only letting in one goal.

Romero’s leadership kept the defence organised and strong, earning him a spot in the Copa America 2024 Team of the Tournament.

Romero’s passing was also top-notch, with a 94 per cent completion rate. His steady and strong performances made him one of the best defenders in the tournament.

Ange Postecoglou will undoubtedly be thrilled with Romero’s performance. His ability to lead and play well under pressure is great news for Tottenham as they look to improve on a fifth-placed finish last term.
