Sean Dyche’s decision to start Dominic Calvert-Lewin over Beto for Everton this season has been proven right after the striker’s poor performance for Guinea-Bissau in their game against Eswatini.
The striker was the focal point of his country’s attack on Friday (15 November) and failed to become the difference-maker in the clash.
The game ended 1-1 with Guinea-Bissau only bringing things level in the 87th minute thanks to a goal from Carlos Mane.
Beto played the full 90 minutes of the tie but only managed to have 20 touches of the ball and one shot throughout the entirety of the clash, which shows how poor he was (Sofascore).
Beto needs to buck his ideas up to take Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s starting XI spot for Everton
The 2024/25 season for Everton has been a fairly strange one. The Toffees currently find themselves 16th in the Premier League and should be doing far better than what they currently are.
There have been times this season where Beto has been thrown on by his manager in the final minutes of the game and he’s managed to make an impact, which has sparked discussions about the former Udinese man starting for the Toffees over Calvert-Lewin.
However, Dyche has stuck to his guns and has kept the Englishman as the focal point of his attack despite his poor form in the final third.
One of Everton’s main priorities in the summer should have been to bring in a regular goalscorer.
Of course, Armando Broja was welcomed through the Goodison Park doors but his injury has meant that he’s not yet been able to play for the club.
If Beto wants to have a future on Merseyside when The Friedkin Group takes over, he’s going to have to buck his ideas up otherwise he could find himself pushed aside and forgotten about if he’s not careful.
In other Everton news, the Toffees have been linked with a move for Arthur Melo as Juventus are willing to sell the Brazilian playmaker.
