Sean Dyche and Everton will be hoping for an upheaval in their form ahead of their clash against Leicester City on 21 September.
The Toffees have had a woeful start to the 2024/25 season and currently sit at rock bottom of the Premier League table with zero points.
It has gone from bad to worse recently with consecutive 3-2 defeats despite being two goals to the good against both Bournemouth and Aston Villa.
Everton’s squad is already thin and after three players were ruled out of their Carabao Cup loss against Southampton due to illness, Dyche will likely have few options to choose from.
Sean Dyche may need to experiment with his Everton squad
Jordan Pickford is the most obvious choice to put back into the first team. Although the goalkeeper has conceded 13 Premier League goals this term, he will replace Joao Virginia.
Dyche won’t have much choice in the defence because Everton are severely lacking in depth due to injuries and illnesses.
Roman Dixon should get another start alongside Dwight McNeil who may have to be played out of position, with Ashley Young in woeful form and Vitalii Mykolenko’s potential absence.
Jake O’Brien should finally be afforded his first Premier League start and while most Everton fans would prefer James Tarkowski to partner him, it’s unknown whether he’ll be fit enough to play following his back injury so Michael Keane will likely be beside him.
In midfield, Everton will likely start Tim Iroegbunam but Dyche could move to James Garner over Idrissa Gueye to try and control possession more against the Foxes.
In the final third, Jack Harrison and Iliman Ndiaye could be deployed on the flanks, with summer arrival Jesper Lindstrom possibly used in a central role.
Leading the line should be Dominic Calvert-Lewin, while the attacker had a poor showing against Aston Villa last time out, he created so many chances that more goals should follow.
This game could be crucial for the future of Dyche as Everton boss and, if he fails to get any points on the board once again, even more pressure will mount on his head [The i, 17 September] than there already is.
