Everton fans have been riddled with concern and frustration following Dan Friedkin’s decision to step away from a takeover deal at Goodison Park.
While Sean Dyche and Kevin Thelwell’s transfer strategy has continued at a pace despite the disappointing takeover news, there are natural fears about what comes next.
Everton insider Bryan King exclusively told Goodison News on 7 July that the takeover hit a “stumbling block” due to the money that was owed to 777 Partners.
The manager and his squad are carrying on pre-season as normal, though, and only Farhad Moshiri can find a takeover solution.
As the concerns off the field continue, the signing of a former player this summer could boost the fans’ positivity on it, with some excitement at the prospect of James Rodriguez being a Toffee once again.
The ex-Everton star jokingly replied to a post of himself via the EvertonHub Instagram account asking him to “come home”, writing “last dance?” and with another team now pulling out of the race, it could be a possibility.
Everton sign re-sign James Rodriguez?
Speaking via Radio Sei, quoted by Fabrizio Romano [1 August], Lazio’s Director of Football said: “I’d never sign James Rodriguez, impossible. The rumours are fake.
“He’s 33 and never played more than 12/13 games in recent years… he did well in Copa America but we are not even interested in signing James.”
James is one of those players that many fans dream about returning, though he would be unlikely to fit into Dyche’s defensive system at Goodison Park, and Alan Myers has already knocked back the reports.
The midfielder was an instant hit in his single season on Merseyside, notching six goals and eight assists in 26 appearances, with almost everybody upset to see him leave so soon.
While his seasons in Saudi Arabia and Brazil have not quite been up to the same level as the rest of his career, it would be fantastic to see him have one last dance at Goodison wouldn’t it?
In other Everton news, Dan Friedkin could play an important role in the Tammy Abraham transfer saga despite the takeover collapse.
