Sean Dyche’s team was haunted by injuries throughout the 2023/24 campaign, a trend that continued right until the final match of the season for Everton.

As the Toffees kicked off against Arsenal in the Premier League finale, losing 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium, Andre Gomes, Dele Alli, Jack Harrison, Nathan Patterson and Vitalii Mykolenko were all sidelined.

The latter is one of the most important names on that list, especially with the first three players either confirmed to depart the club permanently or have their future up in the air.

Mykolenko, Dyche’s first-choice full-back, suffered an ankle injury and missed the final four games of the campaign, though fans will be filled with excitement after Ukraine’s 3-1 defeat to Poland on Friday 8 June.

The 25-year-old started the friendly, playing the first 45 minutes before being subbed off at half-time, likely being given a chance to build some fitness before Euro 2024 begins.

The Ukrainian is a crucial part of Dyche’s team and his injury was an obvious blow, though it was not a crucial one as the Toffees had already secured their safety in the division.

Of course, considering his spell on the sidelines, fans will be holding their collective breath as he travels with Ukraine to Germany for Euro 2024 this summer. But it will be a great sign to see him play 45 minutes.

Without Mykolenko, Dyche had no choice but to turn to Ashley Young in the left-back position. Although the veteran is still a trusted man at Goodison Park, there is an obvious drop-down in quality.

Evertonians will have been buzzing to see one of their favourite players return to the pitch, and mostly, be hoping that he can return to the club at 100 per cent ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

In other Everton news, King has been left shocked by an “enormous” update on a £225million debt at the club.
