Calvert-Lewin has been the primary goalscorer at Goodison Park in recent years, but Everton must now prepare for life without him.
The centre-forward faces an uncertain future at the Merseyside-based club as he enters the final six months of his contract.
Phil McNulty of BBC recently said that the 27-year-old’s time with the Toffees is coming to a “natural” end as he has shown inclination to sign a fresh deal.
While the general expectation is for him to pack his bags in the summer, a January exit can no longer be ruled out after a crushing news emerged from Newcastle.
Calvert-Lewin destined for Everton exit as crushing Newcastle injury emerges
According to the Daily Mail [11 December], Callum Wilson is ruled out with a serious injury again despite only returning from a four-month layoff.
The Magpies have been “rocked” after learning the Englishman will now be sidelined for the next two months – one of the busiest periods of the season.
Eddie Howe was hopeful that Wilson could ease the workload on Alexander Isak upon returning, but all those plans have now come crashing down.
With the January transfer window less than four weeks, it would not be a surprise if the Magpies brought their plans to sign Calvert-Lewin forward.
The former Sheffield United man, therefore, looks destined to put an end to his eight-year association with Everton. Whether that will be in January or the summer remains to be seen.
In a way, selling Calvert-Lewin to Newcastle next month would also make a lot of sense for Sean Dyche’s side as they prepare for a new ownership under The Friedkin Group.
It is worth noting that his performances have left much to be desired this season, with the striker having only two goals and an assist to show for his 14 Premier League appearances.
January is the last opportunity for the Goodison Park outfit to bag a transfer fee for Calvert-Lewin and they could use that sum to bolster their ranks for the second half of the season.
It appears Dyche’s side are already preparing for life without Calvert-Lewin as they have been keeping tabs on several forwards ahead of January.

Meanwhile, Armando Broja would have the chance to make the number nine shirt at Goodison Park his own if Calvert-Lewin departs.
In other Everton news, Alan Myers has said Farhad Moshiri is underappreciated on Merseyside after he has done for the Toffees.
