Richard Dunne believes that Jarrad Branthwaite making the switch from Everton to Chelsea could well be a possibility in the future.
The centre-back was consistently linked with a move to Manchester United in the summer, but a move never came to fruition due to the Toffees’ unwillingness to negotiate on their price.
This season been stop-start for the youngster as he’s spent most of his time sidelined due to injury.
However, his injuries haven’t stopped the speculation around his future with Dunne believing he could easily play for a team that’s challenging for the title and namechecked billionaire-owned Premier League giants Chelsea as a potential landing spot if United’s interest has waned.
“From watching him play, obviously Jarrad Branthwaite had that period at PSV, who are a huge club over in Holland, so he’s had that experience of playing for a team that is expected to be up the top end of the table,” he said to LiverpoolWorld (11 December).
“I certainly think he can do that no problem — I don’t have any concerns about his ability to play for a club that are expected to win more football games than they lose and challenge for titles.
“I think a few clubs will be looking at him. If Manchester United’s interest has moved on with all of the changes that are happening at the club, then I think a team like Chelsea would definitely be interested in him. I think he has the right kind of profile to play for them and any of the top four clubs.”
Everton must keep Jarrad Branthwaite at Goodison Park no matter what
It remains clearly evident that Branthwaite is still one of Everton’s best players and you can’t help but feel that his absence, especially early in the season, has contributed to the frustrating campaign Sean Dyche’s men have endured.
Last season was arguably one of the toughest in Everton’s history due to their two separate points deductions for two breaches of the Premier League’s PSR rules.
However, thanks in large part to the impressive breakout season that the centre-back produced, the Merseyside outfit managed to comfortably avoid the drop in the end.
This season, they reside in 15th place and are four points away from 14th-placed West Ham United.
The 4-0 demolition of Wolves last weekend was some welcome respite after a five-match winless run preceded it, and hopefully it can be the launchpad in a tricky-looking December.
And, with The Friedkin Group’s takeover now just around the corner, it’s likely that more funding will be brought into the club to allow them to bolster their ranks without the need to sell Branthwaite, which, would be an ideal situation for the Toffees.
In other Everton news, Aaron Lennon has shared what the Toffees’ players have told him about Jarrad Branthwaite.
