Everton could now be under pressure to push forward with their attempts to sign Jesper Lindstrøm in the face of competition from Aston Villa.

According to Fabrizio Romano on 13 July the Danish winger was the Toffees’ new “top target” after opening transfer talks with Napoli.

The Mirror then reported on 15 July as interest was reignited in Leeds United’s Willy Gnonto that a Lindstrøm deal was being investigated and that the Serie A club were “interested” in a sale.

However, there is rival interest from Villa Park and according to Il Mattino on 16 July Unai Emery’s side have already made an offer worth €30million [£25.2m].

Aston Villa are set to sign Amadou Onana from Everton

Napoli are said to be carefully evaluating the bid while the 24-year-old himself wants to wait for the green light from his employers before he starts his own negotiations.

Everton and Villa have already done plenty of business with each other that looks to have worked out positively for both sides this summer.

Corresponding transfers which sent Lewis Dobbin to Villa Park and Tim Iroegbunam to Goodison helped ease concerns over profit and sustainability restrictions prior to 30 June.

Amadou Onana
Everton and Aston Villa have done a deal for Amadou Onana but are in opposition for Jesper Lindstrøm.

And Emery is set to win the race for Toffees star Amadou Onana in a £50million move that is expected to go through imminently.

But they are now in opposition when it comes to Lindstrøm and it appears the Birmingham side have made the first decisive move amid a possible exit for Moussa Diaby [talkSPORT, 16 July].

Villa beating Everton to the Denmark international surely wouldn’t derail the Onana business but it would leave the relationship soured after multiple agreements up to this point.

In other Everton news, Sky Sports claim the Toffees will be forced to wait to do any deal for an attacker they’ve wanted to sign for a long time already.
