Rangers can breathe a sigh of relief as Connor Barron appears to be fit contrary to reports that he has suffered a knock.

The Daily Record reported via their website on Monday (14 October) that the 22-year-old has not travelled with the Scotland Under-21s to face Kazakhstan.

He was said to be left out of the squad as a precaution after picking up a knock.

However, those rumours have proven to be wide of the mark as Barron has now been drafted to the Scotland senior squad in a turn of events, as now confirmed by the Tartan Army.

Connor Barron news gives Rangers double joy

Rangers fans would have been sweating over Barron’s fitness ahead of Sunday’s (20 October) trip to Kilmarnock.

However, the latest news on the midfielder is a source of double joy for the Ibrox outfit, who signed him from Aberdeen in the summer.

While there were concerns about how Barron would settle in at the club after arriving from Pittodrie, he has established himself as a key player in Philippe Clement’s system.

It is a testament to the youngster’s abilities that he has started all but two of Rangers’ 13 games across all competitions this season.

Although he made a costly error in the 4-1 Europa League loss to Lyon on 3 October, he has shown a desire to learn from his mistakes and improve.

This is why Barron being called up to the Scotland first team will be a source of great joy for Rangers.

Having made 11 appearances for Under-21s, the Kintore-born player could be in line to make his senior bow for the national team against Portugal on Tuesday (15 October).

He has taken James Forrest’s place in the team and it remains to be seen if Steve Clarke will play him against Cristiano Ronaldo and co, although it seems unlikely.

In other Rangers news, Derek Ferguson has warned Clement about losing the trust of the Ibrox faithful.
