Rangers securing a major new sponsorship deal with Kindred Group is “music to my ears” but more needs to follow, says Derek Ferguson.
The Light Blues announced an extended partnership with the company on 18 September which is said to be an 80 per-cent uplift on the previous deal and could rise to 93 per cent higher in what is the biggest ever front-of-shirt deal done by the club [Jonny McFarlane, 18 September].
That rise should amount to an extra £2.7million coming into the club, potentially increasing to around £3 [4 Lads Had A Dream, 18 September], and according to finance expert Dan Plumley represents the biggest shirt deal in Scotland.
Rangers are in major need of financial help as the gap to Celtic continues to widen after three seasons of the Scottish Premiership title heading to Parkhead, Champions League qualification money, and major sales on top.
Meanwhile the Ibrox hierarchy are in disarray as top figures continue to depart, with John Bennett recently forced to step down on medical grounds, and gaffes being made behind the scenes such as the Copland Road stand building work debacle.
So Ferguson believes Dave King should be granted his wish to come back in as chair, to get key decisions made and bring with him the overseas investment he insists is available [Rangers Review, 15 September].
Ferguson said of the Kindred deal, speaking exclusively to Ibrox News: “It’s about time. It’s clear to see we need investment so that’s one of the few successes we’ve had in bringing in a few bob.
“Obviously we’ve got the shirt manufacturer as well, Castore, which is pretty good.
“But we need more of that, so listen, any money coming into the club is music to my ears.
“But they need to get their finger out in that respect, and this is why we need to get Dave King in as quick as to get the right people in the right positions to bring in the money that we need.”
