Jose Mourinho may have just extinguished all talk of a move to Everton once and for all with his latest comments to Sky Sports.
Sky Sports shared an interview with the Special One on X [29 October], where he states his heart is set in London and his preference against relegation-fighting clubs.
The Liverpool Echo’s recent reports have denied Mourinho could be an option to succeed Sean Dyche at some stage for The Friedkin Group once they take over on Merseyside, due to a perceived lack of stability [25 October].
Mourinho himself said: “Even knowing the Premier League is the best competition in Europe, I would never go to the Premier League to a team that is near relegation. I will never go.”
Everton very unlikely to embark on Jose Mourinho adventure
In addition to Mourinho’s refusal for a battle to stay in the Premier League, Dyche has built a steadily improving run of form.
However, those who were coming around to Dyche’s staggered improvements were hugely underwhelmed by the 1-1 draw against Fulham [26 October], in which they were bailed out in stoppage time by Beto’s header.
Everton remain a huge entity in English football – just ask Carlo Ancelotti – but the undoubtedly dreamed-of Mourinho appears to be searching for a medium somewhere in between a club competing in Europe and one threatened with the Championship.
With the unpredictability of the game in this country, it leaves just a small gap. The 61-year-old has also confessed his love for London remains and that his family are still based in the capital [Sky Sports, 28 October].
This would narrow it down only to a club like West Ham, Fulham or even Brentford. It even looks as though Crystal Palace are under huge pressure this season.
Mourinho will always leave football guessing, but for Everton, stability is the key and the illustrious, charismatic character may not be the most appropriate medicine right now.
In other Everton news, Dyche could send a clear message to Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the upcoming game.
