Daniel Levy will be even more desperate for investment from Amanda Staveley at Tottenham after the Labour budget update means he must find an extra £3million a year.
The ex-Newcastle United shareholder and her investors have shown an interest in potentially purchasing a stake in the North London club [The Mirror].
Stan Collymore has suggested that the Middle East investors could buy a 12.5 per cent stake for £700million [CaughtOffside, 17 October] which could change after the latest update.
Daniel Levy to be desperate for Amanda Staveley investment at Tottenham
Chancellor of Exchequer Rachel Reeves announced on Wednesday (30 October), that the National Insurance rates for employers will rise from 13.8% to 15% starting April 2025 (BBC).
This is set to increase the government’s revenue but does represent a blow to businesses including football clubs and Spurs are certainly affected.
Spurs’ wage bill was reported at £251.1million in their accounts for 2022-23 which were released in April this year[The Swiss Ramble].
As a result of a 1.2 per cent increase to National Insurance, Levy would be forced to find an additional £3m per year.
With that being said, having additional investment from Staveley could prove to be needed in North London and provide the club with a boost.
Although nothing is concrete between Tottenham and the former Magpies shareholder, non-disclosure agreements may well be in place for both parties as negotiations continue [The Athletic, 23 October].
With the latest update from the Labour government, Levy may look to speed up these negotiations to help ease any potential threats.
