Daniel Levy will be even more desperate for investment from Amanda Staveley at Tottenham after the Labour budget update means he must find an extra £3million a year.

The ex-Newcastle United shareholder and her investors have shown an interest in potentially purchasing a stake in the North London club [The Mirror].

Stan Collymore has suggested that the Middle East investors could buy a 12.5 per cent stake for £700million [CaughtOffside, 17 October] which could change after the latest update.

Chancellor of Exchequer Rachel Reeves announced on Wednesday (30 October), that the National Insurance rates for employers will rise from 13.8% to 15% starting April 2025 (BBC).

This is set to increase the government’s revenue but does represent a blow to businesses including football clubs and Spurs are certainly affected.

Spurs’ wage bill was reported at £251.1million in their accounts for 2022-23 which were released in April this year[The Swiss Ramble].

As a result of a 1.2 per cent increase to National Insurance, Levy would be forced to find an additional £3m per year.

With that being said, having additional investment from Staveley could prove to be needed in North London and provide the club with a boost.

Although nothing is concrete between Tottenham and the former Magpies shareholder, non-disclosure agreements may well be in place for both parties as negotiations continue [The Athletic, 23 October].

With the latest update from the Labour government, Levy may look to speed up these negotiations to help ease any potential threats.
