With just under a month to go until the transfer deadline, Everton have done an excellent job of keeping their best talents at Goodison Park.
While Amadou Onana did make the move to Aston Villa, neither Jarrad Branthwaite nor Dominic Calvert-Lewin are close to summer exits, but that could still change in the final weeks of the window.
Calvert-Lewin has entered the final 12 months of his deal on Merseyside and there is a belief that the Toffees could be forced to accept a cut-price £20million offer for the striker’s signature [Joe Thomas, 29 July].
Sean Dyche will be reluctant to lose his most consistent source of goals so close to the start of the Premier League campaign, but the Blues cannot afford to let him walk away for nothing at the end of the season.
So far, the only major interest in the England international has come from Newcastle United [The Athletic, 29 June], but other clubs including Manchester United are understood to hold an interest in the attacker’s signature [The Athletic, 9 July].
The Red Devils have held internal discussions over potentially signing the Everton star and a new update from Erik ten Hag’s side could see them submit an opening offer for his services.
Will Dominic Calvert-Lewin exit Everton amid Manchester United transfer rumours?
Reports from The Telegraph (4 August) suggest the United manager has admitted he may have to start the season with Jadon Sancho as their first-choice striker due to recent developments.
Rasmus Hojlund has been sidelined by injury whilst new attacker Joshua Zirkee is expected to take some time to get up to speed before starting matches regularly in the Premier League.
With United’s options now so limited, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Red Devils reignite their interest in Calvert-Lewin and try to prize him away from Everton just to provide some depth at the top end of the field.
While they are unlikely to be willing to spend big on a player who would more often than not be a rotation option, United may be tempted to bid now that they know Dyche’s side could accept a reduced offer.
This could well be one to watch in the final weeks of the transfer window as clubs rush to get their business done ahead of the transfer deadline.
