Everton supporters will have been pleasantly surprised by their club’s work in the summer transfer window so far.
Despite plenty of off-the-field uncertainty at Goodison Park, Sean Dyche and Kevin Thelwell have managed to bolster the Blues squad without having to sell a key star like Jarrad Branthwaite.
However, there is still a lot to sort out behind the scenes on the blue half of Merseyside, most notably the ownership situation which remains unsolved after the collapse of Dan Friedkin’s period of exclusivity came to an end.
Farhad Moshiri is once again looking for a new buyer after the group ended talks with the Toffees with Blues insider Bryan King telling Goodison News on 7 July that the deal hit a “stumbling block” due to money owed to 777 Partners.
While nothing appears to be imminent in Moshiri’s search to find a new buyer, with The Esk (31 July) suggesting that potential Proceeds of Crime Act problems are scaring prospective investors away from Goodison, some news could emerge in the coming days.
What is happening with the Everton takeover?
Sky Sports journalist Alan Myers had suggested via X on 26 July that supporters would likely receive “some clarity” around the current situation at Everton in the next two weeks.
While that clarity is yet to emerge, it has only been nine days since Myers posted that tweet and therefore there will be some hope that an update may emerge from Moshiri or another source sooner rather than later.
With the new season now only a matter of weeks away, the Blues cannot afford to have these ownership issues drag on for another Premier League campaign as it distracts and impacts matters on the field.
It has almost reached a point where supporters would be happy to see anyone other than Moshiri, barring 777 Partners, at the top of their club just so talk of a potential takeover could finally be put to bed.
Hopefully, Myers’ initial prediction will be right and the next couple of days will finally hand supporters an update on where the future of the club stands.
Nothing is ever straightforward at Everton football club, but this saga has been unbearable for everyone associated with the Toffees.
In other Everton news, the Toffees have been told to make a Kalvin Phillips transfer decision as he sits in Manchester City “purgatory”
