Tottenham Women will be hoping to improve on their sixth-placed WSL finish last season after signing Hayley Raso from Real Madrid.
Spurs Women confirmed the signing of the Australian international forward on 1 September with the new WSL season just three weeks away, with journalist Ben Jacobs sharing the news on X.
Raso’s international compatriot Clare Hunt has also been brought through the doors at Brisbane Road from Paris Saint-Germain, while Sweden defender Amanda Nilsen’s arrival from Juventus was sealed in June.
With England youth international Ella Morris also on board for the new campaign, Spurs will be keen to climb the WSL table after last season, where they finished 19 points off the Champions League places.
Hayley Raso transfer to give Tottenham Women new dimension
The latest of several statement signings made by the Lilywhites this summer, Raso’s addition means Spurs will have a three-strong Australian contingent for their WSL campaign this season.
Although Raso may only be the fourth first-team signing made in North London this summer – with eight heading the other way – her arrival is a showcase of the quality-over-quantity transfer approach.
Versatile and capable of playing anywhere across the frontline and in attacking midfield, Raso has previous experience during her time at Everton and Manchester City, playing two seasons for the latter.
Playing for Real Madrid last season in an ultimately unsuccessful Liga F title race with Barcelona, Raso will bring the experience of hitting these heights to the Spurs dressing room.
Spurs themselves finished well off the pace in their battle to keep up with the likes of London rivals Arsenal and Chelsea, but with Raso, Nilden and Hunt in tow, they’ve given themselves a strong chance.
In other Tottenham news, Bryan King didn’t hold back in his verdict of James Maddison after their 2-1 loss to Newcastle United.
