Everton are through to the third round of the Carabao Cup after securing a 3-0 win against Doncaster Rovers on Tuesday night (27 August).

The second half is where this tie got better after a quiet first half. Dwight McNeil got a touch on Tim Iroegbunam’s low drive to put Sean Dyche’s side one up eight minutes after the restart.

Iliman Ndiaye doubled Everton’s lead after a slamming home past Ian Lawlor after a top-class mazy run through the Rovers’ defence.

Beto eventually got on the scoresheet, after missing a guilt-edged chance earlier on, putting the Toffees three up and into the next round of the competition.

Here, Goodison News rates the Everton players out of 10 for their performances at Goodison Park.

Jordan Pickford – 5

The England number one recovered well from his error against Tottenham last time out with a positive performance with a few top saves. Pickford had a much quieter second half and was able to get comfortable with the ball at his feet once again.

Seamus Coleman – 6

The captain returned and was a cool head in the back line, showing his experience and calmness to help his back line to keep a clean sheet. There was nothing spectacular about his performance but just a typical solid showing from the Irishman.

Michael Keane – 5

A solid enough performance from the Englishman who has come under fire in recent weeks for his performances. His showing wasn’t without mistakes after a few misplaced passes and being dispossessed but a better showing than against Tottenham for sure.

Jake O’Brien – 5

A useful showing on his competitive debut for the Toffees from the Irishman who was positive on the ball while not being forced into much defensive work. The ex-Lyon man could prove to be an important member of Dyche’s squad as the season moves on, especially in cup competitions.

Vitalii Mykolenko – 5

The first-half showing was almost summed up when the Ukraine international directed the ball out for a corner as Pickford rushed out to collect. The rest of his performance was steady and nothing to write home about against opposition who struggled in the second half.

Tim Iroegbunam – 7

The youngster signed from Aston Villa looks to be a proper player. Several times throughout the tie the 21-year-old swivelled on the ball and opened the game up like no one else on the pitch could. There is no doubt that he deserved the goal to open the scoring but it was awarded to McNeil.

James Garner – 5

It was a positive return for the midfielder who has been missed by Dyche’s side in the opening two Premier League games. The ex-Manchester United man potentially should have been on the scoresheet after bursting forward but a solid enough performance from the 23-year-old.

Jesper Lindstrom – 6

The Dane picked up his first competitive goal involvement for the club after taking his time and picking out Iroegbunam with a well-weighted ball. In the Premier League, he probably wouldn’t be afforded that time but as he gets up to speed with English football, he will only get better.

Iliman Ndiaye – 6

The summer signing from Marseille showed some positive touches but was just caught offside too many times. There were many times the attacking midfielder picked up the ball in positive areas but was halted. His performance picked up in the second half and was rewarded for a great run with an excellent goal which will be sure to boost his confidence.

Dwight McNeil – 5

The winger grabbed a goal on the night although it was lucky to go against his name instead of the unfortunate Iroegbunam. The Englishman did perform well on the night at times but would have been hoping to show more of himself against opposition three divisions below.

Beto – 4

This was a chance for the Portuguese striker to force himself into Dyche’s thinking. He was often caught just running into the Doncaster defenders aimlessly. His night was summed up by missing a header from barely six yards out. Fair enough he took his next chance to score Everton’s third but was still a frustrating night overall.
