Ange Postecoglou has chosen to bench Mikey Moore from his Tottenham starting XI for their Carabao Cup clash against Manchester City (30 October).
Spurs have won three of their last five games across all competitions and will be desperate to add a fourth in this sequence in their home clash against the Citizens.
Their last game against Crystal Palace ended in a 1-0 defeat after Tottenham found themselves on the back foot for most of the clash.
Postecoglou’s starting XI was confirmed via Tottenham’s Official X account (30 October) with the Australian naming five changes to his side.
Ange Postecoglou makes correct Mikey Moore decision ahead of Manchester City clash
Moore has found himself having something of a breakthrough campaign for the Lilywhites this season.
The attacker has played in seven games across all competitions this term and while he hasn’t managed to chip in with a goal or assist just yet, it’s evident how much talent the 17-year-old possesses.
In fact, due to his recent form, Moore was handed his first Premier League start of the season in Spurs’ last outing against the Eagles but unfortunately for the youngster, things didn’t go quite to plan.
Hence why Postecoglou may have chosen to bench the Englishman for Timo Werner in their clash against City.
As per Sofascore, in the 63 minutes the youngster was on the pitch, he only managed 25 touches of the ball and completed 0 per cent of the three dribbles he attempted.
Moore also never had a shot towards goal which resulted in an xG of zero. His passing, however, was the highlight of his game as 83 per cent of the 12 he attempted were accurate.
The two that went wayward were crosses as the youngster failed to get either of them to where he intended.
Defensively, Moore wasn’t much better either. He only won two of the seven ground duels he attempted and won just one aerial duel. He also lost possession of the ball 10 times and intercepted the ball once.
While Postecoglou evidently sees a bright future ahead for the youngster, as do most Spurs fans, it feels makes sense to take him out of the limelight here and bring him back in an at opportune moment later in the campaign.
Here’s hoping that Postecoglou’s choice to start Werner pays off and Spurs can manage to pull off an upset at their home ground.
In other Tottenham news, John Wenham shared his verdict on the likely increase in price of Jamie Bynoe-Gittens.
