‘Crazy’: £50k-a-week Arsenal player says he couldn’t believe it when the Gunners came to sign him

Raheem Sterling made all of the headlines at Arsenal on deadline day, but the Gunners did make another mad-dash last-minute signing.

Indeed, towards the end of the transfer window, Arsenal signed Bournemouth goalkeeper, Neto, as Aaron Ramsdale departed to join Southampton.

Neto arrived at Arsenal in a late move, and this move was so shocking that even the player himself was surprised by this deal.

Neto has proved to be a shrewd addition as Ben Foster called this transfer a win-win for everyone involved.

Indeed, speaking on Arsenal’s YouTube channel, Neto has documented just how crazy deadline day was from his perspective, and he says that he couldn’t believe it when he found out Arsenal were in for him.

Neto was stunned by Arsenal move

The £50k-a-week goalkeeper says he was stunned when Arsenal came in for him.

The Brazilian says that this move happened very quickly, and he also says that it was a dream come true.

Indeed, Neto says that he always grew up dreaming of playing for Arsenal.

“When did you first hear we were interested in bringing you to Arsenal?” Neto was asked.

“Everything happened vey quickly. Football is crazy mate. Things change like this,” Neto said.

“It’s really unbelievable. I had two dreams in my life as a kid. To become a professional at Atletico Paranease and to play for Arsenal because I watched a lot of the Premier League when they had Bergkamp, Vieira, Pires, that was my dream.”

Neto almost joined Liverpool at one point

Neto says that he always dreamed of playing for Arsenal, but he very nearly ended up at another English giant a few years ago.

Indeed, according to John Achterberg, Liverpool almost signed Neto before his move to Juventus.

“Neto was a goalkeeper we tried a few times to get as well, but that didn’t come off. He could play the way we wanted to play. When you’re at Liverpool there aren’t too many at the top level to find,” Achterberg said.

Achterberg knows a thing or two about finding a top goalkeeper. After all, he is the coach who picked out Alisson Becker for Liverpool.

The fact that Achterberg was such a fan of Neto is a testament to his ability, and while he may not be the most high-profile player at Arsenal right now, he’s a great backup option to have should anything happen to David Raya in terms of injury or suspension.
