Rangers are surely set to allow Alex Lowry to leave Ibrox this summer after Philippe Clement ditched him from the first-team for pre-season.

The Ibrox club defeated Hamilton in a 5-2 win at Auchenhowie on Saturday (6 July) as the first-team got pre-season underway, with three exit-linked stars in Cyriel Dessers, Todd Cantwell and Scott Wright finding the net during the game.

However there was a second fixture which took place on Friday (5 July) against Queens Park B team, and a standout name on the teamsheet was academy sensation Lowry.

The talented midfielder found the back of the net in a 2-1 win according to Four Lads Had A Dream (6 July), but he was conspicuous by his absence from the first-team friendly clash.

Lowry has previously been tipped for big things at Ibrox, with many fans dubbing him as the next big thing to come out of the academy and break into the first-team, with his ability to play in midfield or as a 10 solving an issue within the squad.

However, after suffering with a number of injuries in recent years and struggling when sent out on loan that belief is beginning to dwindle.

Rangers to sell Alex Lowry this summer

Philippe Clement is adamant he wants to rebuild his squad this summer and there seems to be no suggestion whatsoever that Lowry is in his plans for the 2024/25 campaign.

With the 21-year-old not even training with the first-team seemingly, it now seems inevitable that he will be allowed to move and and Rangers will look to use that cash to reinvest back into the first-team for the manager to strengthen.

It’s a huge shame, because there is nothing better than an academy talent coming through and making it in the first-team.

But with Ross McCausland, Robbie Fraser and Cole McKinnon all making waves, plus the talented Bailey Rice waiting in the wings, Rangers fans will know it’s not the end of the world.

Injuries have caught up in the end, and it now seems as though Clement has made the decision that Rangers’ future doesn’t include Lowry.
