Gary Keown has criticised Rangers chairman John Bennett for his silence over the “atrocious” Ibrox work delays.

Writing via the Daily Mail (7 July), Keown has accused Bennett of showing a lack of respect to Rangers fans.

Keown wrote, “It’s the silence of chairman John Bennett that irks most, though, as Rangers try to find somewhere to put a game on.

“People have paid out for season tickets. Some have invested thousands in Members Club packages. And no one has a clue what’s going on. How long will this go on? Nada.

“It’s atrocious — the nadir, really — and speaks to a lack of respect for the fanbase.”

Gary Keown right to criticise Rangers chairman John Bennett

It is hard to pick holes in or disagree with anything that Keown has written about Bennett.

For a club as big as the Gers, perhaps the biggest in Scotland and certainly in the top two, to not know where they will be playing their opening league fixtures is ridiculous.

Things happen and unforeseen circumstances arise, but contingency plans should at least be in place.

And at the very least, Bennett should at least have the decency to provide supporters with an update.

As Keown rightly pointed out, supporters pay big money for matchday tickets in various forms and to have no idea where they will even be watching their team play is incredible.

It can’t be easy for Philippe Clement or the players either.

They will be gearing themselves up for a big season as they get ready to try and push on in Europe and dethrone Celtic in Scotland.

Therefore, not knowing where their opening league fixtures will take place won’t exactly help those preparations.

In other Rangers news, the club are to move for a Norwich City player in a transfer which makes sense for all parties.
