Chris Jack shares if Kenny McLean would be 'Huge' financial outlay for Rangers

Rangers wouldn’t have to commit to a “huge financial outlay” if they sign Norwich midfielder Kenny McLean this summer, according to Chris Jack.

In a Q&A for The Rangers Review, Jack said that the Gers could bring in a significant level of experience by signing McLean, having predominantly signed much younger players so far in the transfer window.

The journalist added that Philippe Clement’s side will bring in more experience in the “next phase” of their transfer plans, but stated that signing him wouldn’t represent a financial risk.

While Clement is ushering in a new era at Ibrox this summer, the vast majority of their transfers so far have been on young players with next to no experience in the Scottish top flight.

Added to that is the departure of five veteran players over 30, two of whom – John Lundstram and Ryan Jack – are experienced, defensive-minded midfielders replaced by only Connor Barron so far [Fraser Wilson, 3 June].

Therefore, signing McLean, a player with hundreds of games across the top divisions in both Scotland and England, should be a no-brainer for the Belgian to make this summer.

McLean would also significantly boost the Scottish profile within the squad next season, aiding the club’s ability to fill UEFA quota spots ahead of must-win Champions League qualifiers.

Clement’s squad is going to look vastly different to its current iteration on the first day of next season, and while the x-factor of some unknown names could spring a surprise, McLean marshalling the midfield at Ibrox will certainly help to tie everything together [Chris Jack, 17 June].
