View: Robert Vilahamn will be delighted for Tottenham Women star after int'l announcement

Robert Vilahamn will be delighted for Tottenham Women star Matilda Vinberg.

As per the official Tottenham website (20 June), the midfielder has been called up to the Sweden Women squad for the upcoming international break in July.

Peter Gerhardsson has named Vinberg in his 27-player squad for Sweden’s final two fixtures of the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 qualifiers as they look to reach the tournament in Switzerland next year.

They are sat second in their qualifying group, two points behind first-placed France Women, and level on points with the Lionesses but ahead on goal difference.

Vinberg will hope to be involved when Sweden take on France on 12 July and England Women on 16 July.

She has played six times for her country so far, scoring once.

Vinberg arrived in North London in January.

And it shows the strength in depth of Spurs that a player who has mostly been a squad option so far for Vilahamn is a recognised international.

Vinberg made her first start for Tottenham in a 3-0 win against Southampton Women (25 January).

As per Sofascore, she completed 83 per cent of her passes with two of those key.

Her first and only goal for the club thus far was a match-winner as she got on the scoresheet during a 1-0 win over Leicester City Women (17 March).

That afternoon she completed 100 per cent of her dribbles, won one ground duel and completed 64 per cent of her passes.

Vinberg grabbed her first assist in Spurs colours in a 2-2 draw with Manchester United Women toward the end of the season (21 April), while also playing two key passes and winning four ground duels.

Now that she has had some time to settle down in London, Vilahamn will hope that Vinberg can become a big player for the club next season.

And hopefully, her time away with the national team will provide her with some confidence to go ahead and do just that.
