Everton have moved earlier in the transfer window to bolster Sean Dyche’s attacking options with the signing of Iliman Ndiaye from Marseille.

A new striker was always going to be high on the agenda this summer due to the Toffees’ reliance on Dominic Calvert-Lewin last summer, especially with fears rising that the Englishman could be set to depart.

Having been linked with a move to Newcastle earlier in the window which didn’t come to fruition [Luke Edwards, 24 June] reports suggest the England international has rejected a new contract and wants to leave before the start of the season [Graeme Bailey, 4 July].

If Calvert-Lewin does manage to force his way out of Merseyside, Dyche will once again be short of striker options and that could well dictate what happens to Youseff Chermiti over the coming months.

The Portuguese forward was the subject of loan interest in the January transfer window, but no temporary exit was sanctioned because of an injury crisis at Everton at the time [The Athletic, 14 March].

However, there is a belief that the teenager needs consistent first-team minutes this season to help his development and should that not be on offer at Goodison, a loan exit may be on the cards this summer.

Will Youseff Chermiti exit Everton in the summer transfer window at Goodison Park?

The Toffees may now however be forced into blocking Chermiti’s pathway once again if Calvert-Lewin departs as he will be one of only three striking options available to Dyche alongside Ndiaye and Beto.

Even though a temporary spell away from Merseyside could massively help the young forward’s development after a difficult debut campaign in the Premier League, it may not be possible because of circumstances outside of his control.

Hopefully, the Blues will move quickly to replace Calvert-Lewin with another centre-forward if he does decide to move on because that would allow Chermiti to depart temporarily without leaving Dyche short of options.

But until the former England international’s future is resolved, the Toffees will be forced into keeping the Portuguese forward at Goodison for the time with any potential loan departure now delayed.

In other Everton news, the Toffees could be set to command a fee of £100million for Jarrad Branthwaite next summer
