Kevin Thelwell could be at risk of being sacked by Everton due to failed transfers when The Friedkin Group review his position at the club.

The US Billionaires look set to come in at Goodison and put an end to months of uncertainty as Farhad Moshiri finally sells the club.

When their takeover is completed, the current Roma owners are going to put several members of staff and Sean Dyche under the microscope before potentially making changes [Alan Nixon, 17 November].

The Toffees’ director of football Thelwell isn’t immune from this as he and his scouting team are set to go through the process, which may not go down well based on recent transfer activity.

The 51-year-old has come under plenty of scrutiny from supporters already due to recent transfer windows that haven’t exactly gone to plan.

He took over as director in February 2022 and has overseen five transfer windows with little by the way of positive business to speak of.

A deal early in his reign for someone like Amadou Onana proved to be profitable, despite not necessarily seeing the best of the Belgium international at Goodison.

Although this was profitable, the deal with Lille was the second most expensive in the club’s history so the 23-year-old arguably could have been better.

One deal which may come under scrutiny from Friedkin in the coming weeks and months is that of Beto, who signed from Udinese for up to £30million [BBC Sport].

Just over a year at the club, after signing in August 2023, the 26-year-old has scored just seven goals and now has been given the green light to depart on loan in January [Calcio Mercato].

Spending such a large fee on a player who has never truly fit in at Goodison will be a black mark against Thelwell and his scouting team, which may leave them at risk of the sack when the new owner comes in on Merseyside.
