Will Lankshear could become a regular fixture of the Tottenham first-team over the coming months.

Ange Postecoglou has handed Lankshear two starts already this season, both in the UEFA Europa League.

Although he grabbed his first senior goal for the club on his second start in the 3-2 UEFA Europa League defeat against Galatasaray at RAMS Park (7 November), things would end badly as the striker was sent off.

However, the 19-year-old was still hailed for his overall display after the match, and it is clear that he has a lot of potential in North London.

And it looks as though he will now have the golden opportunity to showcase that potential consistently over the coming months.

According to Postecoglou, Richarlison will be out of action for quite some time.

The Spurs boss said (via Fabrizio Romano, 8 November), “Richarlison will be out for a significant amount of time. It’s a significant hamstring injury”.

As frustrating as this is for Postecoglou, the news presents a golden opportunity for Lankshear.

With Richarlison unavailable, Lankshear looks to be the clear second-choice striker in North London.

Dominic Solanke is no doubt the number one in that position, with the England international recently making quite the impact against Galatasaray.

However, Postecoglou won’t want to play Solanke all the time, as Spurs get set to embark on the busy festive period. Therefore, there will be lots of opportunities for Lankshear to play first-team football.

As a result, he will be expecting to make his Premier League debut soon and could continue to start in the Europa League, once he has served his suspension of course.

While that red card put a rather sour note on Lankshear’s evening against Galatasaray, there was still plenty for Postecoglou to be impressed by.

The young forward put himself around well and took his goal exceptionally. In addition, his celebration in front of the Galatasaray supporters demonstrated a confident young player who isn’t fazed by the step up to senior football.

Therefore, despite the sending-off, Spurs supporters will no doubt be keen to see more of what Lankshear can do, and once Richarlison returns, he could end up struggling to get back into the team.

In other Tottenham news, Postecoglou’s January transfer priority has emerged.
