Tottenham outcast Sergio Reguilon is planning to terminate his contract to leave the club in January, according to CaughtOffside.
The online news outlet reported on 6 November that Reguilon is looking to fast-track his way out of the club this January by terminating his contract, having not been named in a matchday squad this season.
Reguilon last played for Spurs back in 2022 and is well down the pecking order in North London, having failed to make an anticipated move to Turkey late in the summer transfer window [Sunday People, 8 September].
The 27-year-old does have January suitors in the form of Getafe and Sevilla in his native Spain, and while neither club wants to pay a transfer fee for the left-back, Spurs are ready to let him leave the club.
Sergio Reguilon could finally be set for Tottenham exit door
The last three seasons have seen Reguilon make more loan moves than he has first-team appearances for Spurs – albeit that’s not too difficult to achieve when the latter number stands at zero.
Atletico Madrid, Manchester United and Brentford have all taken the left-back on loan since the 2022/23 season, yet Reguilon has made just 40 appearances combined for the trio and made little impact.
Although he was a regular for Brentford in the second half of last season, playing 16 of a possible 18 Premier League matches after arriving in January, the Bees didn’t see fit to keep him permanently.
Reguilon’s slide into North London obscurity comes with the club actively seeking new left-back options to provide competition for Destiny Udogie, with youngster Archie Gray even deputising in the position.
All this points to Reguilon quietly making his long-anticipated – and overdue – exit from Spurs this January, a departure which will receive no complaints from any party after years of career stagnation.
In other Tottenham news, Daniel Levy will front the negotiations in Spurs’ pursuit of a brand-new England international midfielder.
