Tottenham have been handed a boost for the clash against Brighton as Jan Paul van Hecke has confirmed he will miss six weeks through injury.
Spurs travel to face the Seagulls on Sunday 6 October as they look to build from a superb 3-0 win against Manchester United last time out.
It is no easy task away at the AMEX with Fabian Hürzeler unbeaten at home since taking over as manager over the summer.
The German head coach will be without key defender van Hecke who confirmed his absence via an interview with ESPN on 1 October.
He said: “I have been dealing with it for a while, I have also played matches with it, but in the final phase against Nottingham Forest it shot into my groin. Afterwards, we had a scan done and it became clear that there is a big tear in it.
“We have to wait and see how the rehabilitation goes, but in principle, it is six weeks. I feel like I am slightly ahead of schedule. I hope that it will go a bit faster and that I can rejoin sooner.”
Jan Paul van Hecke to miss Tottenham clash for Brighton
The Dutchman has been integral for Brighton so far this season and his absence was definitely notable against Chelsea in a 4-2 defeat.
Arguably, the 24-year-old’s best performance came against Manchester United earlier in the season in a 2-1 win at home.
Throughout the clash, van Hecke kept up an 88 per cent pass accuracy with 76 completed passes and 100 touches [FotMob].
This is integral to how Hürzeler wants to play which is only made better by the defender maintaining a 100 per cent dribble success and seven passes into the final third against the Red Devils.
He also isn’t afraid to put a foot in when needed, registering two tackles, two clearances and three interceptions against United.
There is a sizable drop-off from him to their main backup option Adam Webster who really struggled against Chelsea.
Cole Palmer scored four on the day with the former Bristol City man failing to win a tackle or a duel throughout the clash at Stamford Bridge [FotMob].
With both Dominic Solanke and Brennan Johnson in top goalscoring form, they will be licking their lips at the prospect of facing Webster with van Hecke missing.
In other Tottenham news, one star has been labelled as an ‘animal’ after what he did against Manchester United.
