View: Tottenham teen spotted in first-team training after injury, it's his perfect chance

Luca Gunter could be set to make his first-team debut for Tottenham in their Europa League contest with Roma following Guglielmo Vicario’s injury.

The Italian who has been in great form in Spurs’ opening 12 Premier League matches was forced to have surgery after it was revealed he played 60 minutes in the 4-0 victory over Manchester City with a broken ankle.

Fraser Forster is the Lilywhites’ back-up goalkeeper but youngster Gunter was also spotted training with the first-team ahead of the contest, according to a post on X by Lilywhite Rose, and could get the nod, with the veteran needing to stay fit for Premier League action.

Brandon Austin and Alfie Whiteman were also a part of the goalkeeping unit that trained ahead of the contest on Thursday (28 November).

The 19-year-old was a key player in the Tottenham under-21 team that won the Premier League 2 title last season.

The season before he captained the under-17 and under-18 teams to a Premier League cup double.

Forster has done little to cement the number two position when he has been given a chance while Whiteman and Austin are unproven and are 26 and 25 respectively.

Top six rivals Liverpool have seen the benefits of giving a young goalkeeper a chance in recent years, with Caoimhin Kelleher shining in the absence of number one Alisson Becker.

Postecoglou could try to replicate the success that the Reds have had by giving Gunter a chance to impress on the continental stage.
